Some information about the ban on the use of mercury lamps, fluorescent lamps, and halogen lamps in the European market

1.The use of mercury in lighting products will be prohibited by the RoHS directive from 2023. As a result, T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent lamps with separate power supply will be prohibited from being placed on the market.

2.Furthermore, the SLR Directive will prohibit halogen lamps with G9, G4 and GY6.35 bases. Only certain special-use lamps are entitled to an exemption.

3.Ban on the placing of CLFni lamps on the European market from February 25, 2023.

4.Ban on the placing on the European market of all T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes from August 25, 2023.

5.Halogen lamps with G9, G4 and GY6.35 bases as of September 1, 2023.

6.Extension of the 5-year exemption for HPD lamps.

7.Extension of the exemption from 3 to 5 years for special purpose lamps.

In accordance with the amended RoHS Directive, compact fluorescent lamps and fluorescent tubes can no longer be “placed on the market” in the EU from February 25, 2023 and August 25, 2023 respectively. After these dates, products already placed on the European market can continue to be sold until stocks last.
